Timbaland's erstwhile musical collaborator Magoo passes away at age 50

Timbaland announced Melvin "Magoo" Barcliff's passing on social media.

 He was one half of the duo. No specific reason of death has been given

The producer paid respects on Monday via an Instagram post.

Timbaland wrote, "It hits in a unique way. Long live Melvin aka Magoo!

In 1997, Timbaland and Magoo published "Welcome to Our World," their platinum-selling debut album,

which included Aaliyah and Missy Elliott, another Virginian, on the first song, "Up Jumps da Boogie.

Magoo is credited with connecting Elliott with Timbaland, which led to the formation of one of the most famous hip-hop duos of the 1990s.
